Healing is not about erasing the past—it is about gathering the fragmented pieces of ourselves and forging something intentional, something whole. This diptych reflects that journey, where damage is not concealed but embraced as part of the transformation.
Two canvases, once separate, are reunited over charred maple, their surfaces layered with acrylic, ink, and liquid glass—each medium bleeding into the next, like memories and experiences that shape who we become. The textures, both raw and refined, echo the complexity of growth: the tension between preservation and change, destruction and rebirth.
Encased in a shou sugi ban poplar frame, this work is a sanctuary for resilience. The charring, a process of burning, paradoxically strengthens the wood, much like how our wounds, when honored rather than hidden, become the foundation of something enduring.
"Reconciliation" is not just about mending—it is about transformation. It is a reminder that beauty is not found in perfection, but in the courage to assemble ourselves anew.
