not all that glitters is gold

Appearances can be deceiving. This piece is detailed with materials associated with wealth, beauty, and luxury, such as gold, silver, and onyx. From afar, the piece looks sculpted and dripping with gold and silver. The wood pieces look like diamonds positioned in a way that could be the organic growth pattern. As the viewer gets closer to the artwork, they will notice that the wood pieces are charred and have ashes that litter the edges. The wood pieces are cracked, charred, and placed imperfectly. This work is a commentary on the superficiality of our society and the importance of looking beyond appearances to find truth and meaning behind what may be a facade. "Believe nothing you hear, and half of what you see"
